Today was a short ride under very nice weather conditions. Everybody left the hotel together at around 8:30am. The only exception was my riding buddy, Tom, who left at 6:30am. He is driving to Kokomo, his boyhood home, after the ride today. So I kind of floated around, hooking up with different groups. The pace was very laid back since we weren't going to be able to check in until early afternoon in any case.
We passed a number of substantial farm complexes with expensive homes and several significant out buildings. Prosperous. However, there is a lot of evidence of drought in this area which is what I heard about on this morning's farm report.
Late morning departure from Crawfordsville
One of the groups that I was hanging with today:
On another topic, the bugs have not been bad at all on any part of the trip so far. However, among the few that we've had have been some B-52 size bombers. This is where the wraparound glasses have earned their keep. A couple of smaller bugs have somehow worked their way in behind my glasses. There is no quick fix for this since the glasses are somewhat intertwined with the helmet straps. It can be distracting.
Interesting factoid: Indianapolis has a greater population than Detroit.
Total Miles: 45 Total Vertical Climb: 400 ft.
Well the fish flies are in full force at the park. Today, Joshua once had 7 on him at the same time. Missed you, but we were making plans for your big arrival at the Atlantic coast. We are pumped! love, Annie , Michael & Joshua
ReplyDeleteThousands of fish flies on Lakeshore. Word has it the more fish flies the healthier the lake. Michael and Josh were our entertainment at the park today(hula hoops included). Glad to see you had a light riding day. See you on Sunday!

45 miles with 400' vertical. Sounds like you're slacking compared to earlier in the week!! I believe you have 2 weeks to go with one more rest stop. I know you're looking forward to meeting your family in Ohio on Sunday. Keep safe.
