There was the usual pre-rest day excitement. Every rest day (all four of them) seem to come just when we really need them. CrossRoads has this ride pretty well worked out.
Morning departure out of Springfield, IL
Parting comment on Springfield: we had a discussion at dinner last night about whether it's Springfield, IL (or one of the other many Springfields) that is the home of Bart Simpson. Couldn't come to a definitive answer. See, it's not all fun and games; we do have serious discussions.
Video clip from a short distance out of Springfield:
Pretty much all of the CrossRoads group hit the Dairy Queen in Clinton. Nothing like a Blizzard to move you down the highway. The following video clip was shot between Clinton and Champaign:
Politics are alive and well in the little town of Deland:
No party preference here!
Final video clip is riding from into Champaign:
Total Miles: 87 Total Vertical Climb: 2200 ft.
Now you have become a political commentator as well as all of the other activities you have mastered. Almost 200 miles in 2 days. I am amazed at how fast you are crossing states. You will be into Ind on Thursday after your well deserved day off. Enjoy the rest and continued safe travels.

This evening Joshua and I looked at the big map of the U.S. over his bed and he was amazed how far you have gone. Sounds to me that you may be missing the Midwest a wee bit :) Can hardly wait to get the low down on Rubbermaid with you next crossing. Enjoy Champagne...I mean... Champaign. love, Annie
ReplyDeleteGlad to see the climbing was limited to 2200 ft. A piece of cake day;less than 1/2 mile of torture, and only 87 miles. Enjoy a massage and a brew on your day off.

In regards to the day off, I think aunt Annie had it correct with Champagne :) I'm sure the weather was such a relief, especially thinking back to your desert days in the west. It really is remarkable to think how far you have gone, just two weeks away from the finale! I bet the DQ treat was delicious and a much needed calorie surge. Stepping up from chocolate milk to chocolate ice cream, all in the name of athletic performance of course ;)
ReplyDeleteblizzards are awesome all the time...choc with butterfinger is my absolute favorite!!...so glad for the weather break as well..cant believe you are in the home stretch. love, mary therese
